Alec Steele

My name's Alec Steele and here you'll find near-daily videos documenting the process of building some awesome projects here in the shop. As a blacksmith, most of the projects start as lumps of steel, or stacks of different alloys for making damascus, that I forge out into blades, sculpture, art or tools before taking the project to the machining equipment or into the grinding room for finishing. Each project teaches me a lot and stretches the bounds of my knowledge. I make a lot of mistakes but they serve as an excellent teacher. There's always something important for me to learn in the shop!
I want my work to be the spark that ignites the desire for you to get into your shop (or kitchen/basement/garage) and make something too! Whether it's stitching a leather wallet or forging a giant sword, you'll love the creative process.
Be sure to follow me on instagram @alecsteele for behind the scenes and grab some awesome products at alecsteeleshop.com/
Thanks!
Alec

The thing is, the blower just gets more reactions between the carbon-hydrogen chains of the gas abd the oxygen molecules in the air to happen by stirring it up more abd giving the always fresh ixxgen to react with. It would get hotter if you would use just straight oxygen instead if air which contains ~80% nitrogen but that's quite dangerous, pure oxygen is evil. A stronger blower might not be the best option since it also has a cooling effect by pumping more room temp air in so you could pre heat the air as to not let heat get wasted on heating up the fresh air that's coming in and maybe even the gas. Or use a diffrent reaction partner for the gas which might be probably more dangerous and toxic than any other option but I mean it's an option even though it's a stupid one. But good luck with the forge tho.

fun fact, rapiers aren't actually really light, they weigh about as much as a normal english "long" sword. due to their length they still require quite a bit of steel. also they are, to my understanding and i could be wrong on this, very hard to use effectively.

Why dont you try making REAL DAMASCUS? Real Damascus is crucible steel with a unique ore that produces the pattern. Real Damascus has no folding and the pattern comes from the unique ore makeup and heat treating. Folded steel is just pattern welding. Like paking puff pastry. Real DAMASCUS is an artform and i challenge you to make it

LAYERED STEEL OR PATTERN WELDING IS NOT DAMASCUS. DAMASCUS HAS NO LAYERS. TRUE DAMASCUS IS CRUCIBLE STEEL THAT HAS UNIQUE ORE THAT PRODUCES THE PATTERN.. NOT LAYERS, LAYERING IS NOT DAMASCUS

The crate is lighter than the mill. If speed bump jump the crate should moved with the machine - Newtons laws. That smashed paint (It's not) on the rear of the ram - something hit that this with incredible force to shatter that covering. If the machine tipped ocer hand fell on the ram there would be damage to the travel geat and certainly the rotating turret on which the ram sits would show signs of being distorted somehow. Check the movement of all parts of the machine above the base. The table and knee would NOT have been effected by a backward fall.
